Inc.com has listed green building as one of its top industries for 2014. The U.S. Green Building Councilpredicts that this fast-growing industry will see total revenue increase to $245 billion by 2016. Inc.com interviewed several companies that recently broke into the green construction industry about what they have learned. One of the statements made was that no matter how good a building may be for the environment, owners will rarely be interested if the alternative is cheaper. Developing buildings that can be constructed cheaper than those using traditional methods, while also being more energy efficient, is a good way to increase business. Affordability will almost always be at the top of a client’s list. The lesson here for design professionals is that if a design can successfully incorporate sustainable materials that present cost savings over time, the result could be very attractive to clients.
